ABOUT US

Social Entrepreneurship

Social entrepreneurs act as the change agents for society, seizing opportunities others miss to improve systems, invent new approaches, and create solutions to change society for the better. While a business entrepreneur might create entirely new industries, a social entrepreneur develops innovative solutions to social problems and then implements them on a large scale. Social entrepreneurship combines the passion of a social mission with an image of business-like discipline, innovation, and determination commonly associated with. The idea is that nonprofits can benefit from the focus of for-profit businesses – customer focus, sound strategy, effective planning, efficient operations, financial discipline.

Chilies: The Spice of Life

AnB Agro began in 2010 when its founder, Mr Gugen Navamani a former lecturer, became fascinated by agriculture. He began working in agriculture by growing vegetables for fun, and even had a few failed crops. By 2013 he had managed to improve his skills enough to begin a successful chili farm.

During this time, Gugen found a new outlook in life: to have a meaningful life, it is necessary to help others. This new perspective encouraged him to start sharing his knowledge in agriculture and train villagers from his community to later hire them to work in his farm. In 2014, ANB Agro Trainer was registered as professional agro training academy. He believe this agro academy is the most suitable platform of social entrepreneurship. Now, the profit obtain from the agriculture sector focus on the holistic human capital development. A village in North region of Malaysia, Lunas Kedah was chosen as the first place for society empowerment mainly on women and single mother. On November of 2014, AnB Agro Trainers was selected to join the VIP, Volunteering for International

Professionals Program to expand its outreach and impact in the community. The VIP Fellowship Program aims to attract global fellows from diverse educational and professional backgrounds who are passionate about working with socially-focused enterprises. The purpose of these fellows was to assist AnB Agro in expanding its scope to create a human capital development center which now serves as a training and capacity building center, focusing on assisting single mothers residing in the area in preparing for benefitting from additional job opportunities.
